Josh, some great work on the renovation, it’s come up really nicely! It’s good to see you stressing the importance of not taking short cuts when it comes to prepping and removing wallpaper. It definitely does lead to more problems down the road when done incorrectly. However there is a caveat on that. If the wallpaper is in good condition and you have primed it properly, you can get away with painting over wallpaper. On a few jobs where the client has been on a tight budget, we have used an oil based primer to really seal the adhesive and keep then moisture from the paint away. Has worked well and we haven’t got any call backs. But I’d still agree with you and always push for stripping back wallpaper where possible. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure as the saying goes. Also, would love to see how your painted popcorn ceilings came up. We call it ‘vermiculite’. Before you can begin painting your interior, you have to do a few things to prepare your space. Some of these preparations may be included in your contractors’ painting fee, but you can also take care of some of the jobs yourself. If you’re planning on doing things yourself, be sure to have everything prepared before the painters arrive. Otherwise, you’ll be wasting their time and potentially adding expenses to your project.
Allow your first coat of paint to dry completely. According to Behr, you’ll need to wait at least two hours in between coats. Don’t be tempted to reuse paint-covered brushes or rollers. Start fresh to ensure your second coat goes on as smoothly as the first.
The second line item “Walls”- walls will be done with the square footage as well. Most painters will charge $2.00- $4.00 per square foot on walls. $2.00 would be one coat, one color and one story home. $4.00 would be 2 coats on everything, a 2 story home, drywall repairs and multiple colors. Example- (1,500 sq ft home X $3.00 sq ft (average) = $4,500.00 to paint all walls. This would include labor and materials.
We are in the process of painting our entire house. It’s not huge by any means but we do have very high ceilings in our living room/kitchen which has created an extra issue.
