I decided earlier this year to get my house painted. I met with a few companies to get quotes, but was not impressed until I met with James. He took the time to assess my house, to explain the process, to show me his licensure and insurance, and then to provide me with copies of Yelp reviews and references. He was very professional.

Then it’s time to research the overall cost to DIY. This includes estimating how much it will cost you to complete exterior repairs, purchase the necessary amount of paint, rollers, brushes, and rent equipment such as power washers and ladders. Once you’ve priced out the total DIY cost, assess which route is most cost-effective.
To be frank, if that was the case you probably wouldn’t be reading this article. With this in mind, let’s dive into the cost of painting supplies, equipment, and your time.
Another great tutorial. You guys really put out some great and helpful posts. I was especially happy to see that you kept the popcorn ceiling! I feel like there is so much pressure to get rid of your popcorn ceiling if you have it, but it is so expensive especially if you have asbestos. It is really such a minor thing I don’t think it should get as much flak as it does. Besides, I am convinced if I wait long enough, the popcorn ceilings will make a comeback;)

Greg has been involved in the painting industry his whole life—he started doing summer work when he was a teenager, and when he moved from the East Coast to California, his first full-time job was with a painting contractor in San Mateo. After working for three painting contractors in San Francisco and Marin over a 12-year span, he finally established his own company, Solidarity Painting, Inc., in 1990. Greg’s professional emphasis on quality was evident in Solidarity Painting’s ability to not only withstand but actually prosper during the economic downturn of 2008. “When many painting businesses were folding, we were actually expanding,” he says. “In 2009, we moved from a 1,000-square-foot shop to a 2,500-square-foot shop.”
3,000 to 5,000+ square foot homes like this near Ponte Vedra and St. Johns, FL range from $7,800 to $12,000 and up.
Finally, it’s time to apply your paint! Here are a few tips for paint application:
That said, if you have your heart set on doing it yourself and your house is single-story and relatively detail-free, consider hiring the pros to do the arduous work of prepping your home and property (including power-washing, patching, sanding, and scraping), and you can paint it yourself afterward. 3. In both bedrooms there were holes knocked in the walls by the door handles (easily avoided with a $1 doorstop.) The holes were too big to patch with just spackle, so I got a couple of hole patches. They are sold near the spackles in your home improvement store. The directions are easy to follow, and they work! After paint, you wouldn’t know there once were big ol’ ugly holes. We used spackle to cover nail holes, minor cracks, and imperfections throughout the house. I tried a lot of different spackles in this house. My favorite one for minor repairs is Fast N Final. It applies easily, dries in a few minutes, and doesn’t require a whole lot of sanding.
