One thing to consider when looking for a quality painting company is to have them start by doing a small project.
You should paint the outside of your house when temperatures are above 50 degrees. You’ll want to avoid rainy weather and high humidity, so the best times of year in most places are spring or fall.
Let's say you intend to paint an area of 2,000 square feet. In this case, you need about 5.5 gallons of primer and 5.5 gallons of paint for each coat. Our Florida expert painters recommend that you add an extra 20 percent to the square footage for textured or rough wall surfaces, such as stucco or brick walls. Also, using a tinted primer close to the paint color you’ve chosen for your walls may allow you to get a unified finish without applying two coats of paint.
Generally, the house plan for a 1,500 sq.ft. home fits two or three bedrooms, one or two bathrooms, a living room, a dining room, and a kitchen. To paint the interior of a home this size, the cost will be between $4,500 and $6,000. If you’re only focused on the exterior, expect to pay between $2,250 and $5,800. Sometimes, it makes sense to do it all together. The average cost to paint a 1,500 square foot house is approximately $6,700 to $11,800.
Always be sure to prep your roller and brushes before painting. You don’t want brush lint or bristles on your walls. And don’t forget to tape!
As seen in Forbes, CNBC and USA Today, LawnStarter makes it easy to schedule service with a local lawn care professional.
For paint to be applied properly and evenly, your home’s exterior will need to be clean and dry. Plan to power wash, remove any flaking paint, repair loose wood or siding, and sand uneven surfaces before painting.
We’re currently flipping a house from the late 60s. We stripped popcorn ceilings ourselves in the entire house, re-textured every ceiling and wall, replaced all of the trim, and repainted every surface. We painted the ceilings with a roller extension- it was by far my least favorite part of renovations so far- so much easier if you do it before flooring is in though! I can’t wait to see more posts on the house! Such a neat project! Emily @ Life on Food February 25, 2015
Completing an entire apartment top to bottom in 1 day? Not really - unless you have a small army of painters to help you.
In addition, if the color seems too overwhelming for all four of your walls, consider leaving one wall painted that color as an accent. You may find that a ‘pop’ of color is all you needed.
2. Clean walls. With a pressure washer, spray off dirt, dust, moss, and other debris stuck to your siding. Once the walls dry, scrape or sand off any peeling paint. Clean every surface you plan to paint.
Prior to talking with local painters in person or over the phone, you’ll want to decide on the details of your upcoming painting project. For example, have an idea of the areas you want painted, the color scheme you’re looking for and the timeline you want. Think about these questions to get you started: Which areas of my home need to be painted (i.e. interior room painting, exterior painting, kitchen painting, bedroom painting, new paint throughout the house)? Are there any changes or repairs I’d like to have made before the contractors start the job (such as repairing moulding and trim, patching wall damage, texturizing walls, or installing new windows and doors)? Do I want to stick with the same basic color scheme, or do I want bold paint or a drastic color change? Do I plan to live in this home long-term? Or is this a house I plan to sell or a rental property? What personal and professional characteristics would I like my Sonoma County painting contractor to have? (These may include good communication skills, starting the job on time, honesty, reliability, timeliness and cleanliness.) SANTA ROSA — When Mike Chavez was introduced to the painting trade by the father of a friend, he had little idea he was being primed for a permanent profession. “My buddy’s dad was a painter, and I worked for him during the summers in high school,” he recounts. “I remember leaving a jobsite one day, looking over the finished product as I drove away, and feeling a sense of accomplishment and pride. After high school, I worked for a couple of different painting contractors until I decided to get my license and start my own business.”
After getting the total square footage, our experts recommend dividing by 350 to find how many gallons will be needed.
