Josh, some great work on the renovation, it’s come up really nicely! It’s good to see you stressing the importance of not taking short cuts when it comes to prepping and removing wallpaper. It definitely does lead to more problems down the road when done incorrectly. However there is a caveat on that. If the wallpaper is in good condition and you have primed it properly, you can get away with painting over wallpaper. On a few jobs where the client has been on a tight budget, we have used an oil based primer to really seal the adhesive and keep then moisture from the paint away. Has worked well and we haven’t got any call backs. But I’d still agree with you and always push for stripping back wallpaper where possible. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure as the saying goes. Also, would love to see how your painted popcorn ceilings came up. We call it ‘vermiculite’. Its quite old school and we come across it in school jobs and old buildings occasionally. Jake Beals May 09, 2020
Is black the new neutral? Black houses are certainly on the rise, and there’s no denying their chic appeal. But you may want to consider these cons before crossing over to the dark side: First, black houses absorb more heat from the sun than white houses. And black fades faster than lighter colors. As with most home renovation projects, one of the largest costs associated with exterior house painting is labor. Hiring a professional company to paint the exterior of your home will typically cost you between $30 to $40 per hour per painter required to assist with the work. Most home painting businesses allot two painters per job, and these two workers are most typically able to cover 100 square feet of the home per hour. Based on a home that is 2,400 square feet in size, the labor cost to simply paint the house once all the prep work has been completed would range from $1,440 to $1,920.
Please note: these costs ranges don’t include cost of scaffolding or any consideration of condition where it may require repair work – this is only to give you an idea of cost.
You can, of course, choose bolder colors and make them work with older homes. But we advise choosing colors that play well with the age and vibe of the home and that bring out the home’s good bones.
Interior and exterior paints need to stand up to entirely different menaces. Paint on the interior of your home will need to be cleaned or even scrubbed. Exterior paints need to be resistant to weather and sun damage. Both exterior and interior paints are a combination of pigment, solvent, resins, and additives. The solvent in paint keeps it liquid and spreadable until it dries on your wall or trim. Latex painting dries more quickly because its solvent is water. The solvent in oil-based paints is mineral spirits, which takes more time to evaporate. Once the paint is applied, the solvent evaporates, and the resin allows the paint to adhere to the surface. Various additives in paint give it desirable characteristics, like moisture and scrub resistance.
Secondly, think about how many coats of paint you want to do. If you are priming the walls first, one coat might be enough, whereas two coats are often needed if walls are not primed.

A friend who's home is one street over had The exterior of his house repainted. My friend is very meticulous in everything he does and showed me the work done. The quality was excellent. We had our home done last week as well. Ruben didn't let us down either, the attention to detail is perfect. Ruben's crew worked hard, quietly and cleaned up everything afterwards. He has done several homes in our neighborhood as I've seen his yard sign in front of a few of them.
