It is important to remember that the paint job on your wood trim and siding isn’t as durable, however, and most begin to show wear and age after about three or four years.
Benjamin Moore is a great choice for interior paint as they offer high-quality products at a good price. On average, it costs between $10 and $70 per gallon based on the type of finish you select. Rather than working as a major corporation, every store is locally owned, which can be a big plus for many homeowners looking for a brand they feel they can trust. While they offer a wide range of affordable paints, their higher-end options are a bit pricey. That being said, they are more reliable and durable, too. .
So is there a formula that links home size to the cost of a paint job? Opinions differ. First, measure the exterior square footage of your home and multiply it by the height of your home, from the ground to the roof line. Subtract windows and doors you don’t plan to paint if you feel like getting fancy. You can also subtract window trims if you plan on painting them with an accent color.
Most contractors charge between $25 and $50 an hour but can go up to as much as $100 an hour depending on the job. This will also change if you are hiring for a larger job. Some contractors will bring along help from other trades. This will add to the overall cost as too.

If you want your exterior trim to really pop, then this is the paint finish for you. A high-gloss sheen offers extreme durability and adds a beautiful richness to paint color. You may be tempted to paint your entire home exterior with this easy-to-clean, highly durable sheen, but it isn’t a good idea! Painting all of your siding with high-gloss paint will make your home look “plastic” and magnify surface imperfections. Simply use this finish for highlighting ornate architectural details, trim, and doors. Professional painters will happily paint your exterior walls and siding with a semi-gloss or satin paint to complement the high-gloss finish of your trim.
Before you can begin painting your interior, you have to do a few things to prepare your space. Some of these preparations may be included in your contractors’ painting fee, but you can also take care of some of the jobs yourself. If you’re planning on doing things yourself, be sure to have everything prepared before the painters arrive. Otherwise, you’ll be wasting their time and potentially adding expenses to your project.
If you can afford to self-fund your new painting business, then you can skip ahead to the next section. But if you need a little help in the financing department (which many people do), then you may want to consider taking out a small business loan to cover your startup costs. Buying supplies, purchasing insurance, paying for advertisements, and hiring staff can all get pricey. Don’t be afraid to look into your financing options to get the ball rolling.
Painting can be one of the easier building trades to get into because you probably don’t need a license. Here in Florida, most work that doesn’t involve structural components of a house doesn’t require a license.
Factor in the temperatures at night as well since the paint will still be drying, and you want the temperatures to be ideal. However, if you are working with professional painters in your locality, they will advise you on the appropriate conditions and time for exterior painting.
I think this is a great post because it is so practical and something that everyone can benefit from. Hey Rita February 25, 2015
The best times to paint the outside of your home are in the months of June, July, August, or even early September.
The ceilings are all covered in popcorn finish. We really didn’t want to keep the texture at all, but decided to forgo removing it to save money since it’s mainly an aesthetic preference anyway. But we wanted to at least get the ceiling back to looking white. Previous residents must have been smokers, as the ceiling in the living and dining room had taken on a gross yellow patina. Although popcorn with butter is delicious, you don’t want your ceiling to look like buttered popcorn. There were some unsightly water stains as well. We initially just tried painting over the stains with KILZ primer (we actually just tested one spot to experiment.) The water based primer didn’t have a chance against the stain, and within minutes it was seeping through the (several) coats of primer.
Take a little extra time and follow these tips and you'll be guaranteed to make any professional painter envious of your interior house painting prowess.
When signing the contract, don’t be afraid to write in special requests or verbal agreements. This will protect you and help ensure you get the services you have agreed on. Along with end dates and any special instructions, these add-ons may also include related issues that aren’t always covered by a standard contract. For example, regardless of how careful your contractor promises to be, rutted lawns, damaged shrubs and crushed flowerbeds are often unexpected results of exterior painting jobs. But you can protect your property by being proactive. Before the work begins, schedule a walk through with the company supervisor and conduct a pre-work inspection of your property. List or photograph your landscaping, home and property and talk with a company representative about reasonable expectations for protecting your home and yard during the work. When you’ve reached an agreement, both you and the contractor should sign and date the document. When the work is done, do a final inspection together and verify that your expectations were met. Professional painters are able to handle the large and small aspects of their work. But there are a few things you can do in preparation to their arrival and while the work is in progress to help their job go more smoothly. You may even cut down on billable hours or the possibility of damage to your home and belongings. Be a Good Customer How Can You Be a Good Painting Company Customer in Sonoma County?
However, White Dove (OC-17) is still regarded as a warm soft off-white. As an exterior paint color, you can use White Dove on your home’s siding or trim.
