Interior House Painting - How To Paint Walls & Ceilings Jeremy Holderness
.
Do your due diligence. Call around, find out who’s the best in your area. Read Google Reviews.
In both bedrooms there were holes knocked in the walls by the door handles (easily avoided with a $1 doorstop.) The holes were too big to patch with just spackle, so I got a couple of hole patches. They are sold near the spackles in your home improvement store. The directions are easy to follow, and they work! After paint, you wouldn’t know there once were big ol’ ugly holes. We used spackle to cover nail holes, minor cracks, and imperfections throughout the house. I tried a lot of different spackles in this house. My favorite one for minor repairs is Fast N Final. It applies easily, dries in a few minutes, and doesn’t require a whole lot of sanding.
For the best and longest lasting paint job possible, you’ll want to apply a layer of primer before the paint itself. Primer creates a base for the paint, seals pores in the wall, and makes stains easier to mask.
Painting is a convenient and affordable way to enhance your home. Whether you’re planning on painting the interior, exterior, or both, there are plenty of steps you need to take to prepare for the project. Often, it pays to knock out both projects at once. Many companies will paint both the interior and exterior of your home. On average, it costs between $10,300 to $16,750 to do both for the average 2,500 sq.ft. house.
When is it too Cold for Exterior House Painting? Many households feel as if exterior…
The simplest way to determine a room’s footage is to measure and sum the overall length of all the surfaces, then multiplying the total by the room’s height.
Straight exteriors on a box-shaped house make painting work easier as compared to irregularly shaped homes with two or more stories. This means that if you were to undertake the work of painting your sophisticated home, you would need more than a ladder to access high nooks and crannies.
As an example, walls are measured in square feet while interior trim is measured in linear feet.

Naval was Sherwin-Williams color of the year in 2020 and for good reason. It can be used as a deep blue front door shade or as a lovely siding color for exteriors with plenty of light. As a versatile neutral color choice, Naval can even be paired with a rosy pink front door for a pop of color. As you can see in the image above, Naval works nicely with a dark gray front porch floor accent color like “Grey Shingle” from Sherwin.

When hiring an interior painter, do your research, ask plenty of questions, and get at least three quotes from contractors with a good reputation. Getting Interior Painting Quotes Research painting contractors near you, or ask friends, family, and neighbors for references. Read reviews and check out their previous work on HomeGuide, Google, and the Better Business Bureau (BBB). Contact at least three professionals for price quotes.Always get painting estimates in-person, and be skeptical of low bids. Verify their licensing, insurance, and experience. Never pay cash and figure out a reasonable payment plan upfront. Get a detailed contract in writing, including prep work and cleanup. Remember, the lowest bid is not always the best value since they might use cheap materials or unskilled labor. Questions To Ask Interior Painters How long have you been painting? Is your license and insurance up to date? Will you be using subcontractors? How many painting jobs have you completed in the last year? Can I have a list of references with contact information? What paints do you recommend? If you get paint on the furniture, are you liable? Do you offer a warranty or guarantee your work? Pray, Richard. “2019 National Construction Estimator.” 2019. PDF file.
