Interior carpentry projects for existing homes are different than new construction carpentry jobs.
Further Research on Good Painting Contractors in Sonoma County and the North Bay Area Now that you’ve done some initial research, talk with a few local painters. Sherwin’s Pewter Cast (SW 7673) is a cool-muted tone of gray that works well for exterior stucco, lap siding, or cedar shingles. For homes with dark gray shingles or black roofs and exposed stone or brick, this gray exterior color’s adaptability is key. It also pairs nicely with white exterior trim colors like Zircon (SW 7667).
As a rule of thumb, closets and nook areas are usually not included in painting quotes unless you request them specifically.
As far as materials go, you’ll need paint and primer. How much you need of each depends on the size of your project and the material of your siding. On average, 1 gallon of paint will cover up to 400 square feet, and 1 gallon of primer covers about 250 square feet. Assume you’ll need two coats of paint.
The average interior paint job cost falls anywhere between $1.50 and $3.50 per square feet. However, if you want to paint ceilings, walls, and trim, the cost could be anywhere between $3.00 and $4.00
Also, exterior painting requires specialized tools and equipment which you may not have at your homes. When you hire professionals, they come equipped with modern tools and use the latest techniques while coloring your outer walls to perfection.
On average, you should paint your home interior every three to five years. However, you may need to do it sooner, depending on your lifestyle, day-to-day activities, and remodeling plans. No matter what, you should always keep an eye on your walls, especially in areas that are used daily.
One gallon of any BEHR paint is enough to cover between 250 to 400 square feet of surface area with one coat.

The next option was using oil based primer. That stuff is not fun to work with. The fumes are not fun to work around (be sure to open windows!), and you can’t wash it off without using more chemicals. Fortunately somebody suggested we try bleaching the stains, which sounded a bit more feasible and manageable. So we tried it. Dawning coveralls and face masks, and armed with a pump garden sprayer filled with diluted bleach (mostly water with a couple capfuls of bleach), we attacked the stains. After a couple spray downs, the yellow started to disappear! For a couple of days, we misted the ceiling, waited a couple hours and repeated. Most stains were taken care of, the rest were dissolved enough to prime over.
Painting your own house sounds fun since you could do it anyway you want. But I don’t think I would be able to do that though. Hope I could do that someday though 🙂 tisha February 26, 2015
