For non-wood surfaces, press a rag to the area and see if there’s any moisture on it. Be sure to use a light color that shows moisture with ease.
The second thing that we needed to do was prep the walls for paint. That required several things: .
It’s just about impossible to keep your floors free of paint drops. But a good canvas or cotton drop cloth will do a better job than plastic sheets. Paint drops stay wet after they fall on plastic and you can track a single drop all around your house. Cloth drop sheets also stay in place better, they aren’t as slippery as plastic and they are safer for ladders.
Kelly Brothers painted our interior during the winter and exterior in the spring.
One of the most important factors affecting the cost of painting your entire house is size. Generally speaking, one gallon of primer 1 or paint is needed to cover 400 square feet of space. The average house is about 2,500 square feet. With this being said, you may need multiple coats to effectively cover your home’s interior and exterior, impacting the overall cost. Between materials and labor, you can expect to pay between $4,500 and $32,000 depending on the size of your home, number of stories, and shape of the rooms inside. Let’s take a closer look at each price point. The prices in the table below include only one coat of paint.
Yes i completely agree with getting quality tools! I have had so many frustrations from buying garbage tools. It ends up costing more in the long run. Thank you so much for sharing this was very helpful! Painter December 26, 2020
Aside from a good quality paint brush, you want to make sure you have all the supplies you need prior to getting started.
If you have a showy garden that you’d like to highlight, choose a paint color that will do it justice. For instance, architect Kelly Haegglund chose a bright green door (see first image), because “it’s modern, and a complement to the greens and purples in the garden.” And I’ve noticed that darker house colors often make the colors in a garden pop. 7. But white will never be a bad choice. Above: For this house in Connecticut, Brooklyn’s O’Neill Rose Architects used low-luster Benjamin Moore Brilliant White, which principal Devin O’Neill calls “a standard that always looks good.” The firm worked with Donald Kaufman on the palette for the house and chose Donald Kaufman Color DKC-44 in semi-gloss for the porch and ceiling. I am more than impressed with Kelly Brothers Painting! From start-to-finish, the professionalism of each employee was beyond expectation. We painted the entire interior of our house (a five day project) and everyday, the crews arrived on-time and left the house each day as clean as they arrived. I will use Kelly Brothers again for future projects!!!
Following the same cost per square feet, set at $1.50 and $3.50, the cost to paint a 2500 square-feet house would be between $1500 and $3000, give or take.
Painting a home’s exterior is a fast, affordable way to dramatically change its appearance. Paint can be applied to almost any siding, so it’s a versatile option too. On wood and fiber cement siding, paint is more than just aesthetic. It also protects the siding from moisture damage. The downside of painting is that it must be repeated every three to ten years depending on climatic conditions where you live and the type of siding beneath. The upside is that it really freshens up a home and gives you the opportunity to change its look more frequently than with other exterior options.

So is there a formula that links home size to the cost of a paint job? Opinions differ. First, measure the exterior square footage of your home and multiply it by the height of your home, from the ground to the roof line. Subtract windows and doors you don’t plan to paint if you feel like getting fancy. You can also subtract window trims if you plan on painting them with an accent color.
