So far our best purchase has been the shop vac sanding attachment (around $35 from amazon); with a HEPA filter in the vac, we’re getting no sanding dust in the house.
Wanting the job started or completed quickly can alter the price as well. Any professional painting contractor is likely already booked for the near future. If not, you may want to ask why? If you are asking the contractor to squeeze your project between or ahead of others, you are almost always asking for a larger price. In business, everything has a premium!
The next option was using oil based primer. That stuff is not fun to work with. The fumes are not fun to work around (be sure to open windows!), and you can’t wash it off without using more chemicals. Fortunately somebody suggested we try bleaching the stains, which sounded a bit more feasible and manageable. So we tried it. Dawning coveralls and face masks, and armed with a pump garden sprayer filled with diluted bleach (mostly water with a couple capfuls of bleach), we attacked the stains. After a couple spray downs, the yellow started to disappear! For a couple of days, we misted the ceiling, waited a couple hours and repeated. Most stains were taken care of, the rest were dissolved enough to prime over.
It sounds like a line from The Lion King but it’s true. To make sure your painting surfaces are as dry as possible, start in the area that the sun hits first in the morning.
It is a known fact that painting is much easier when there is nothing in your way. This means empty out the room, or at least as much as possible. If you are painting your living room, move large furniture pieces to the center and cover them up with old sheets or drop cloths.
Kelly Brothers did a fabulous job on our exterior painting. Their attention to detail is exceptional. Hats off to Justo, Ricardo, Casey and Marisel. They all were so pleasant to work with during the entire job. Our house looks brand new. Also big thank you to Alisa and to Joe who was our estimator. If you want a professional, hard working painting company, look no further than Kelly Brothers!!
If you can't isolate a color you love – and love in your home – then look for inspiration. Some ideas are probably right in front of you while others may require some searching. Consider: The color of your upholstery, rugs or throw pillows The dominant color in a favored print or work of art The trim on a piece of furniture you'd like to highlight (since choosing a complementary paint color will make that furniture “pop”) Magazines, catalogs or Pinterest (a treasure trove of ideas, as long as you have the time to browse) 4) The Color Wheel:

That, plus the cost of the paint itself, means that an interior paint job is generally cheaper than an exterior one. And it can be a great way to refresh your space without buying all new furniture or making more costly and time-consuming renovations.
