I ended up scraping off paint and wallpaper down to the plaster. It took a couple days to finish. I’m so glad they only did that in the one room! Again, moisture really helped in the process. The more I soaked the walls, the easier it was to scrape and remove the wallpaper and paint. After I had the entire room scraped down to the bare plaster walls, I realized I would have to repair some cracks and skim coat the entire room if there were going to be halfway decent looking walls.
To further make the job complicated, some painters charge an hourly rate, some by square footage, some by the room, and others by the job.

If you've ever tried your hand at painting your home yourself, you know that it can be a big job. Most paints include water alongside a solvent. For the paint to cure and form a hard surface, the water needs to evaporate before the solvent does. With oil-based paints, the same is true: the oil needs to evaporate before the solvent does.
I got several quotes from painters in the area to paint my house. One guy was almost a no show to the estimate (only came hours late after I called him) and took weeks to provide me with a quote, another guy was just too new and had no reviews or portfolio. Although House Painting Inc was more expensive than the others, I went with them because of the extensive information I was given at the estimate that he showed up to on time. I was shown lots of hand written reviews, before and after photos, current license and insurance. He took the time to go over every little spot of my house and provided me with a quote within a day.
