For this step, you’ll need: Contractor-grade trash bags, a utility knife, and paint clean up wipes. If you decide to hire a professional painter, here’s what you can expect to pay:
If you want your exterior trim to really pop, then this is the paint finish for you. A high-gloss sheen offers extreme durability and adds a beautiful richness to paint color. You may be tempted to paint your entire home exterior with this easy-to-clean, highly durable sheen, but it isn’t a good idea! Painting all of your siding with high-gloss paint will make your home look “plastic” and magnify surface imperfections. Simply use this finish for highlighting ornate architectural details, trim, and doors. Professional painters will happily paint your exterior walls and siding with a semi-gloss or satin paint to complement the high-gloss finish of your trim. .
Just having quality paint alone can increase the value of your home by more than $2000. So, not only does it look good for you while you are enjoying your home, but it can also benefit you in the long run if you ever decide to sell.
If you want to save some money, you can choose to paint the house yourself. In fact, most homeowners decide to tackle an interior paint job more often than an exterior paint job. This is one of the reasons interior paint jobs are a bit cheaper than exterior ones.
When asked the first thing he’d do if he were to retire tomorrow, Lee says he’d continue doing the things he currently enjoys. “I’d probably spend more time playing with my daughter, going to the gym and skiing. I might also take the opportunity to go to Europe and ski the Alps.” A: Vinyl records. I used to be a DJ when I was in my 20s, so I’ve accumulated quite a collection. I probably have 10,000 records at this point.
Complete the roller work on the freshly cut-in wall before cutting-in the next wall so that you are always keeping a wet edge. This will help you to create a uniform finish where the roller work meets the brush work.

Another way that homeowners can calculate the cost of house painting is by the average cost per hour or per day. Professional painters have rates that vary between around $35 and $45 per hour for the average home; this price per hour does not include the cost for paint and materials, however, which will need to be added into the total cost. The average cost per hour will also vary depending on the type of painting that needs to be done; exterior painting, for instance, costs more than interior painting on average.
BEHR paints are available in quarts for painting a small area, and five-gallon pails for a very large area.
Location is also a major price factor as those in rural or remote areas do pay cheaper prices. Charging by the hour costs about $25 for labor on basic jobs and up to $50 for large painting jobs; excluding materials. Getting materials like brushes, tarps, paint, and rollers generally cost extra. Prepare to pay about $20 to $75 for a gallon of paint, based on the paint quality. The common paint brands for home use include Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams.
We’re currently flipping a house from the late 60s. We stripped popcorn ceilings ourselves in the entire house, re-textured every ceiling and wall, replaced all of the trim, and repainted every surface. We painted the ceilings with a roller extension- it was by far my least favorite part of renovations so far- so much easier if you do it before flooring is in though! I can’t wait to see more posts on the house! Such a neat project! Emily @ Life on Food February 25, 2015

It's also a good idea to either cover your switch and outlet covers with painter's tape, or - if you're knowledgable about working around electricity - removing the covers from the wall and covering the opening with tape so you can paint under them.
