Although it seems like an unnecessary step to wipe the walls down, it is a very important step. Whether you can see it or not, there is buildup on the walls of dirt, dust, and oils from your hands. Removing this debris prior to painting will allow the paint to adhere to the walls.
As they age, members of the Baby Boomer generation don't like to admit that they're senior citizens, but they love getting discounts. It's kind of a quandary, because some of the best deals available are reduced prices for older folks. || Posted October 21 2013

I ended up scraping off paint and wallpaper down to the plaster. It took a couple days to finish. I’m so glad they only did that in the one room! Again, moisture really helped in the process. The more I soaked the walls, the easier it was to scrape and remove the wallpaper and paint. After I had the entire room scraped down to the bare plaster walls, I realized I would have to repair some cracks and skim coat the entire room if there were going to be halfway decent looking walls.

According to Fixr.com, the national average for a 1,500 square-foot house is $5,170 (including minor prep work). Pricing fluctuates based on the type of siding on your home. For example, a 1,500 square-foot home with engineered wood would cost between $1,500-$2,000, while a stucco home comes in much higher at $4,800-$6,500.
Generally, the house plan for a 1,500 sq.ft. home fits two or three bedrooms, one or two bathrooms, a living room, a dining room, and a kitchen. To paint the interior of a home this size, the cost will be between $4,500 and $6,000. If you’re only focused on the exterior, expect to pay between $2,250 and $5,800. Sometimes, it makes sense to do it all together. The average cost to paint a 1,500 square foot house is approximately $6,700 to $11,800.
Homeowners who want one or more rooms finished during a single painting job can benefit from estimating the cost on the number of rooms and size of the rooms being painted. As a general rule of thumb, it will cost anywhere from $250 to $400 per room to have them painted; however, the more rooms you need painted in a single job, the less the cost per room will be in the end. For example, if you have 5 bedrooms that need painting in a single job, you will pay less per room than if you had only 1 bedroom that needed to be painted. It is therefore more cost effective to have multiple rooms painted in a single job, since you will save money in the long run.

Your exterior paint has to withstand the elements throughout the year, which means you must use durable paint that meets the needs of your home. Generally speaking, you should paint your exterior every five to ten years, but this will depend on where you live, the climate, and the surface of your home. For example, wood siding should be painted every three to seven years, aluminum every five years, stucco 3 is five to six years, and brick can last fifteen to twenty years.
