At Three Brothers Painting, one of our most-asked questions during our house painting estimates with our clients is, “What’s the best way to choose a paint color?” The truth is, every client’s color preferences are different, so it really depends on what colors...
For this step, you’ll need: Brushes, paint rollers and frames, paint sprayer, drop cloths, telescoping ladder, paint bucket, painter’s tape, and paint trays.
.
A fresh coat of paint on your home won’t look its best if there are underlying issues such as buckled siding, rotting wood, or warped trim. Complete all pre-paint repair work, including snapping loose siding into place, fully replacing wood pieces, or repairing small wood blemishes with wood putty.
While it’s best to simply choose a Diamond Certified painting company because of their Highest in Quality rating, that may not always be possible. If you’re unable to choose a Diamond Certified contractor in your area of Sonoma County, you can improve your chances of hiring a good painter by checking out candidates on the Contractors State License Board website to ensure active license and workers’ compensation insurance. Violations and license revocations will appear on their license record, so you’ll know about serious customer grievances and complaints that have been filed with the state.
If you can’t find a Diamond Certified painter within reach, you’ll have to do some research on your own. If you do, it’s wise to call some references provided by your contractor. Keep in mind, though, that references they give to you are not equal in value to the large random sample of customers surveyed during the Diamond Certified ratings process. That’s because references given to customers from companies are rarely randomly selected from all their customers. Instead, contractors will likely give out contact information for a few customers that they know are satisfied.

If there are some areas that do not need to be painted, it’s always a good idea to deduct their square footage from the leading total. Those elements might include massive floor-to-ceiling window walls, double doors, or wallpapered walls.
The approximate square footage of the wall was 1000. The price for the block wall painting was $500. Per square foot price was $0.50. Price included pressure washing and spray painting. This price was a part of a larger painting project. We painted the exterior of the house at the same time we painted the block wall. If we had to paint the wall by itself the cost would be around $1000 which would make per square foot price of $1.
Josh, some great work on the renovation, it’s come up really nicely! It’s good to see you stressing the importance of not taking short cuts when it comes to prepping and removing wallpaper. It definitely does lead to more problems down the road when done incorrectly. However there is a caveat on that. If the wallpaper is in good condition and you have primed it properly, you can get away with painting over wallpaper. On a few jobs where the client has been on a tight budget, we have used an oil based primer to really seal the adhesive and keep then moisture from the paint away. Has worked well and we haven’t got any call backs. But I’d still agree with you and always push for stripping back wallpaper where possible. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure as the saying goes. Also, would love to see how your painted popcorn ceilings came up. We call it ‘vermiculite’. Its quite old school and we come across it in school jobs and old buildings occasionally. Jake Beals May 09, 2020
We just completed our third job with Three Brothers. Their office is professional: appointments and billing are organized and dependable. The work is great – if there are any imperfections, the crew is happy to fix them. The crews are respectful and friendly and the prices are fair for the work. I can’t say enough good things about this company.
Interior paint should last five to ten years. With regular light dusting and gentle cleaning, its lifespan will tend toward the latter. Addressing stains or any signs of water damage as soon as possible is key to maintaining both interior and exterior paint. If you find water damage on your exterior paint, you may want to inspect the gutters and downspouts. A yearly inspection and gutter cleaning may prevent paint damage down the road. Regular maintenance of your exterior paint should also include cleaning, touch-up painting, and trimming trees and bushes near the house to ensure proper airflow.
We know that hiring a painting contractor to come to your home or business can be stressful. You don’t know who will show up (or when), how they will conduct themselves, how well qualified they are, or what to expect with the quality of their work.

When it comes to removing lead from your home, it’s important to have a professional on your side. While it is possible to paint over lead paint, it has to be done in a specific way to effectively cover the potentially dangerous lead paint. This process is known as encapsulation. Regular water-based or oil-based paints won’t work. Instead, you’ll need to use paints specifically called “encapsulants.” Other methods may be used to remove lead paint, and each one has a different price tag. The process can cost anywhere from $8,000 to $15,000.
Some exterior house painters have tried to paint in high humidity while using the wrong products, ending with a sticky result. Wonder why? It’s simple science.
